Adventures in Reading!

March begins our "Adventures in Reading!" month here at Cascade! So many exciting things going on!
On March 7th we begin a week of "Drop Everything And Read." Each student will receive a reading log, and will record their reading each night all during the week. On Friday (March 11) each student that returns their reading log to the Library/Media Center will receive a goodie from Mrs. Haymond.

Please read EVERY day! The more you read, the more you know, the better you are at reading, and the easier it gets to read! PARENTS, ANY reading counts during our Adventures in Reading - "Drop Everything and Read" week. We want to encourage our students to read, and so appreciate all your help at home. Encourage them to read, read, READ this week!

I LOVE this quote from Groucho Marx... "I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book."

Let's do LOTS of reading this week, and don't forget to fill out a gumball for each just right book that you read! Have FUN!!

Next week in the Library...

...we get a fun science exhibit!

Earthquakes in the Intermountain West
What can happen when moderate to strong earthquakes (magnitudes 5.0-7.5) occur in the Intermountain West (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana)?

A new traveling exhibit tells our earthquake story using photos and examples from accounts of earthquakes that have occurred in our area within the last 80 years.

But... it's not just interesting history! Visiting the exhibit is a good first step in preparing for the next earthquake.

You will learn what an earthquake is, why we have them, what they can do, and what you can do about it.

Earthquakes in the Intermountain West is a traveling photographic exhibit that is available for display free of charge to schools, public institutions, and groups interested in earthquake preparedness.

Visit this site for more information on earthquakes in the Intermountain West: www.seis.utah.edu (University of Utah Seismograph Stations)

We will be watching a clip from Bill Nye the Science Guy about how earthquakes happen, and learning where in our libray we can find books about earthquakes. In our non-fiction section... 551. Where? 551!
